Context

The objectives of an Arrival Manager (AMAN) and a Departure Manager (DMAN) is to provide electronic assistance in the management of the flow of arriving and departing traffic, respectively, in a specific airspace, to particular points, such as runway thresholds or metering points. The aim is to sequence air traffic in order to respect separation standards between aircrafts and allow as many flights as possible to land whilst ensuring safe and secure use of the airspace.

Typically, when managing air traffic, the AMAN is prioritised over the DMAN which places departures where it can in the gaps through the AMAN sequence. As a result, traffic is not distributed evenly which is difficult to adapt in real time. In some situations, AMAN and DMAN are combined on a single screen, enabling easy visualisation however, the AMAN remains master and DMAN slave, just like an ordinary split AMAN DMAN.

Revolutionizing the First Come – First Served strategy that has been used for the last 20 years, our integrated flow management solution for arrivals and departures offers global sequence optimization.

The outcome stems from the use of artificial intelligence algorithms, based on a behavioral analysis of ants. Contrary to other systems, our approach uses natural sequencing, a flexible method allowing optimization and an increase in capacity. Based on static management, our solution relies on dynamic functions and determines a sequence 90 minutes in advance, while relying on traffic prediction.

We use precise data, such as the exact time taken for each aircraft from gate to taxiway, to optimise the sequencing of flights at departure, runway capacity and to regulate the flow of aircrafts entering the airspace, such as Terminal Management Area (TMA). It also aims to provide predictability for both ground and air users and reduce holding and low-level vectoring, minimizing the impact on the environment.

SkyKeeper® SMAN

Context

A Surface Manager (SMAN), when combined with Airport CDM allows users to calculate and sequence the shortest taxi routes and deconflict aircrafts in real time. For Air Traffic Management, its algorithms for outing and guidance can be integrated into an Advanced-Surface, Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) to implement Level 3.

Commonly, Variable Taxi Times are used, an estimate for all aircrafts moving from or to the aprons is a considerable drawback to this type of tool as aircrafts end up having to deal with traffic in real time, stopping to give way to other aircrafts or to wait for access to the runway, wasting precious time, fuel and increasing associated costs.
